Cointreau Noir, the newest member of La Maison Cointreau was launched last night by Alfred Cointreau, 6th generation member of the Cointreau family at a soirée held at Sydney’s Café del Mar.

Cointreau Noir is a blend of 70% Cointreau orange liqueur and 30% Rémy Martin Fine Champagne Cognac created to appeal to dark spirit connoisseurs and cocktail drinkers. The liqueur was inspired by “Majestic”, a 1900s blend of Cointreau orange liqueur and cognac crafted by Edouard Cointreau which Cointreau’s master distiller, Bernadette Langlais has recreated.

At the launch, Alfred Cointreau took to the stage to introduce the newest member of the Cointreau family. The original recipe was modified by adding macerations of nuts and almonds which gives the dark spirit sophisticated aromas and complexity.

A golden hue, a touch of spice with notes of vanilla, honey and nuts give the spirit its character with the freshness of the original Cointreau on the front palate followed by the smoothness of the Cognac.
Luke Hanzlicek and Alfred Cointreau
Alfred was joined by Luke Hanzlicek, Bar Manager of the Victoria Room, with the duo shaking and stirring Cointreau Noir cocktails. Hanzlicek is no stranger to the brand, having made a few drinks in his bar with Dita Von Teese in 2013.
Santé!
Cointreau Noir is best served neat, on the rocks, and goes equally well in a tall drink with apple juice and soda, or in a spritzer with lemon juice topped with sparkling wine.
Cointreau Noir will be available across Australia from 1st April 2014 at RRP $64.99.
