Following on from the innovative success in Hamburg, Germany in 2002, this international franchise restaurant is now well established with more than 120 worldwide locations in 26 countries.

Vapiano focuses firmly on freshness. Pasta is hand-made on the premises and prepared right in front of the diner. Pots of fresh herbs on every table can be clipped and used with the meal. A large olive tree adorns the interior of the restaurant.

Ordering and service come with a twist. Customers use a “chip card” which is issued on arrival. They order directly from the chefs who whip up the dish there and then for you to take back to your table. All orders are swiped and charged to the chip card and the bill is paid at the end of the meal.

The menu consists of Antipasti including bruschetta and carpaccio (from $5.90) and Insalate (from $8.90), a selection of gourmet salads made fresh to order. Pizzas include Toscana ($17.90) with spicy pepperoni, fresh tomato, olives, onion, tomato base and mozzarella, and Verdure ($17.90), a hard-to-beat combination of roasted vegetables, mushrooms, tomato base and mozzarella. Pasta dishes include Pesto Basilico ($14.90), traditional basil pesto with olive and pine nuts and the favourite, Carbonara ($12.90) with onions, bacon and egg in a delicious cream sauce. Dolci include Tiramisu della Casa ($5.90) and Panna Cotta ($5.90). A range of vegetarian options, gluten free sauces and kids’ menu are also available.

Sydney can now say ciao to Vapiano for fresh and casual Italian dining in the heart of the city.
