The Oaks’ Six States of Beer

Held bi-monthly at a newly-refurbished section, ‘The Six States of Beer’ events feature different states each time, starting in Victoria and ending in South Australia. The sessions are informal and relaxed where locally-produced craft beers are paired with food offerings.

The first event featured Victoria in a stand-up evening of beers, bites and beats presented by the Beer Diva, Kirrily Waldhorn. A welcome beer was served on arrival, Moon Dog Bjorn to Boogie Watermelon Weizen, in a small champagne flute, with the aim of enhancing the aroma of the craft beer. Perfumed, but light, delicate and spritzy, it’s a summertime beer with a marked melon flavour.

Six States of Beer
Red Hill Wheat Beer and Sushi

The second beer on pour was the Red Hill Wheat Beer, a brewery that grows its own hops. The beer is low in hops and has very little bitterness. Big fruity notes with a pronounced banana character on the back palate are the defining characteristics of this brew which was paired with sushi.

Six States of Beer
Bridge Road Chevalier Saison

Next was Bridge Road Chevalier Saison poured on tap, a Belgian style beer which the Beer Diva described as a slightly funky and fruity in nature. The brew has good body and carbonation and matched the buttermilk fried spicy chicken. This was by far the best of the craft beer on taste.

Six States of Beer
Moon Dog Lovetop Lager

Moving on to more full-bodied brews, the Moon Dog Lovetop Lager was paired with sliders, served medium rare.

Six States of Beer
Mount Goat High Tale Ale

And to finish, duck pancakes paired well with Mount Goat High Tale Ale‘s caramel and toffee notes.
