Daryl Head

Daryl Head, CEO of myPlates, shared his story and explained the evolution of personalised number plates in NSW and the way that have transformed the way drivers express themselves on the road.

Giving a brief history dating back to 1910 when motor vehicles were first registered in NSW, he told guests that it was in 1969 that the first ever personalised plate in NSW was issued. From 1981 onward, custom plates were introduced, followed by commemorative number plates such as Bicentennial plates (1987), the Olympics (1998), Centenary of Federation (2001), the 75th anniversary of the Harbour Bridge (2007) and now Bright Lights (2012).

Renowned street artists, Tim Phibs and Scottie Bonsai were invited to create an artwork that represents Bright Lights and personalisation. PHIBS is the artist who painted the side of Eat Art Truck at the media launch.

Against the shimmering city lights of Vivid Sydney, Phibs and BONSAI worked to create a large canvas of colour each inspired by the new number plates.
