Her name is Miss Peaches and she has just taken residence in Newtown. This southern gal may be new to the Sydney bar and dining scene but she knows how to make a lasting first impression.
Miss Peaches, Newtown
Located along Missendon Road, Miss Peaches is the latest venue by Richie Haines, Marty Routledge and Luke Della Santa. Walk up the staircase and she lures you with her welcome.
Retro lounge
A 70s-style lounge with a fully working black and white television set leads the way to a bright and colourful interior with exposed bricks, orange bar stools, and oversized logos on the wall such the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Crawdaddy’s.
CrawDaddy’s
Comfortable booths set against exposed brick and large windows give the venue a sense of open space with tall tables and bar stools adding a casual vibe.
Colourful booths
A long balcony with a rustic look hugs one side of the venue overlooking the road, an area no doubt smokers will enjoy.
Miss Peaches, The Bar
The marble top bar occupies a sizeable space and in line with Miss Peaches’ southern authenticity, ex American wine crates are used to display a solid range of American whiskeys including some rare imports.
Back bar
A range of American beers including Sierra Nevada Rye, Brooklyn Brown and Anchor Liberty Ale is available along with Young Henry’s Newtwoner and Dirty Granny cider on tap. Red, white and sparkling wines are also available as well homemade sodas ($5) such as Sarsaparilla, Lemonade and Watermelon Fizz.
Beer on tap
Bar Manager, Jimmy Snelgrove, has created a southern-style cocktail list which includes Hot Buttered Pumpkin Rum ($15) and Rum and Raisin Root Beer Float ($17) made with Flor de Caña, ginger beer, spiced rum and molasses ice cream float ($17).
Jimmy Snelgrove, Bar Manager, Sazerac & Dukes of Hazard
Fans of rye whiskey are set to enjoy the Dukes of Hazard ($17). A perfectly balanced mix of rye whiskey, lemon and almond is served tall with grated nutmeg on top. It’s strong and boozy, and difficult to stop at just one. From the black board specials comes the Sazerac ($17), another well-crafted drink that hits the right spot.
Soul Food Menu
Chef Ernie Priestley heads the kitchen at Miss Peaches and you can expect soul food grub such as Po’ Boy Sliders ($8), a large Crisp-skinned Turkey Drumstick ($14), Gumbo ($18), Okra Jambalaya ($16), and a selection of Pickles by the Pound among other temptations.
Crawfish Pies
The Crawfish Pies ($12 for 2) are not to be missed. They come in a light and flaky pastry encasing delicious pieces of crayfish in a spicy sauce.
Oysters Bayou Teche
The Oysters Bayou Teche ($11) are another delicious specialty. Whole oysters are encased with a stuffing of sausage, shrimp and more oysters then deep fried into a crisp ball. You simply pick one up, eat it and enjoy the burst of seafood and spicy flavours. The oyster shells are merely for presentation.
DJ Booth
The concept behind Miss Peaches is to offer a complete experience combining soul food with a bar and music with special nights currently in planning. Music is part of the experience and the venue will feature live acts on weekends.

There’s so much to like about Miss Peaches. From the relaxed and casual feel, to the décor with vibrant colours, well-crafted cocktails and satisfying soul food, the Miss Peaches experience is one that will bring you back for more. At the time of visit, the venue had just opened its doors to the public but it has all the right ingredients to become a Sydney hot spot and a go-to bar and dining destination.
