Glitz, glamour and style graced the opulent premises of the Victoria Room for the Great Gatsby party. Women dressed in 1920s style floated around the room with their flapper dresses, ostrich feathers, sequins and long gloves while men looked dashing in their dapper suits, canes, long scarf and hats.
Guests were welcomed with the Southside cocktail, a mix of Hendrick’s Gin, lime juice, fresh mint and sugar syrup, a drink that was popular amongst the Southside Sportsmen Club in New York’s Long Island. Other prohibition style cocktails were shaken and stirred by the bar team led by Bar Manager, Luke Hanzlicek such as the Dry Martini, served according to a recipe from that era as well as the Scofflaw, made with rye whiskey, lemon juice, dry vermouth and grenadine.
Delicious canapés from the Victoria Room’s kitchen were plentiful including oysters and scallops adding another touch of decadence to the soirée.
Roaring Twenties flapper girls, the Chachitas and Charleston singer and dancer, Mark Love, swing band, La Mere de Django and aerial performer, Missy provided entertainment throughout the evening.
The Victoria Room’s Great Gatsby party was held to coincide with the Australian release of the movie and guests were treated to images from the film and the soundtrack in between the jazz sets.
