Global Table Food Event 2011: Bondi Junction

The Global Table came again to Oxford Street Mall in Bondi Junction on Saturday 12 March, 2011. The event celebrates the diversity of the community through food, music and dance.

You were able to do a round-the-world feast by starting in Asia with Takoyaki – seafood dumplings from Japan, those morish BBQ pork buns from China or Chicken Tikka and Basmati Rice from India.  Before landing in Europe, you need to stop off in Lebanon for some of those magnificent sweets.

Across to Europe with gozleme from Turkey, followed by a seafood paella from where else but Spain. Off to the Americas where the food continues to be as diverse as the people. Aparilla grill from Venezuela, Cebiche fish from Peru or chile con carne from Mexico. As you head home, stop off at our cousins’ in Aotearoa for the traditional Maori hangi banquet. At last back home in Australia, you can write your own headline, “Man Bites Crocodile”, well, crocodile burger that is.

Like last year’s event, while enjoying your food at the 25 metre communal table, you were entertained with music, song and dance from groups proud of their cultural heritage.
