Establishment’s 10th Birthday: X Marks the Red Party

Stepping through the red curtains at the entrance to the Establishment Bar on the evening of September 8 2010, you could be forgiven for seeing the world in red. Party lights, balloon bouquets and red themed projections on oversized balloons provided a delicious décor as Establishment celebrate their 10th birthday with a Red Party.

The event is part of the 10 days-10 offers celebration called X Marks the Spot with specials such as $10 Moet flutes and a $10 entry to the birthday finale at Tank.

Arriving a little later than the starting time of 6.00 pm, we missed out on the red glasses and red party hats that were handed out on arrival. The event was already in full swing, with people dressed in red lining up patiently for free drinks at the bar then stocking up for another round.

The Red Party drinks list offered a good variety with Merivale Brut Sparkling White, Villa Maria Sauvignon “cellar selection”, Felix Shiraz, Coronas and Heineken, Russian Standard Vodka lime/lemon and soda, Beefeater Gin and Tonic, and two red cocktails named Berry Blush and French Pash.

Unlike Merivale’s Feast for the Senses Launch Party earlier in the year, the venue was packed to the extent that people were rubbing more than just shoulders as they passed one another. But the ambience was one of fun and smiles with the majority of people embracing the colour code for the evening.

Getting to the canapés proved a little difficult as plates were emptied as soon as the waiters were spotted so no photos of the food were taken this time. We managed to try the Japanese-style beef on skewers and a delicious prawn dumpling flavoured with fennel.

The House of Gaga provided entertainment for the evening with a Lady Gaga tribute show, an extravagant production complete with costume changes, dancers and hits that had people dancing near the stage.

Once more, Merivale have shown their generosity and impeccable style with this lavish party set in their classy venue. Happy 10th Birthday Establishment, and cheers to the next ten years.
