Bosque de Matasnos Launch with Wines of Chile and Argentina

Wines of Chile and Argentina (WoCA) have introduced Bosque de Matasnos, a new Spanish addition to their portfolio at a launch event held at the Oak Barrel in Sydney.

Jaime Postigo, general manager and winemaker of Bosque de MatAsnos in Spain was a special guest at the media and trade launch which also showcased the selection of Chilean and Argentinian wines from WoCA’s range.

Bosque de Matasnos Crianza 2009

Bosque de Matasnos Crianza 2009 comes from a vineyard in the Matasnos Forest, which is located in Peñaranda de Duero, Burgos, 18 kilometres from Aranda del Duero and 950 meters above sea level. The red wine is made of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Merlot which has been aged for 12 months in new barrels of 90% extra fine grain French oak and 10% premium American oak.

Deep red in colour and described as having “cherry iridescence” from the long maceration with the skins, the wine has aromas of ripe red fruit with gentle wood notes. On the palate, the ripe fruit character is evident with rounded tannins that give the wine a long and lingering finish. A luscious drop to enjoy with a fine meal.

Felipe Rutini Trumpeter Reserva Torrontes 2010 comes from Maipu in Mendoza, and is an aromatic white wine, with notes of peaches, fresh citrus and a long finish, aged in new French oak for three months. A summery and fresh wine to sip on its own or to complement seafood.

San Felipe Roble Tempranillo 2010 isdeep red in colour and has dark fruit and a touch of chocolate on the palate. Aged for 7 months in French and American oak, it has smooth tannins which make it an easy drinking red.

San Felipe Roble Sangiovese 2010 is deep red/purple colourand has been aged in French and American oak for 7 months. On the nose, it has strawberry aromas and floral notes. A smooth and fruity drop with medium tannins.

Finca Flinchman Gestos Shiraz

Finca Flinchman Gestos Shiraz 2008  from Mendoza is made of 100% Shiraz that is a blend of fruit from two different altitudes. One gives it colour, density and volume, the other contributes to the freshness, structure and complexity. The wine has concentrated berries and red ripe fruit flavours. An intense shiraz, with a long finish and a flavour profile that is a lot more prominent than Australian Shiraz wines.

Finca Flinchman Expresiones

Finca Flinchman Expresiones 2008 is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and comes from 31-year-old vines. The wine has been aged for 8 months in French and American oak casks and has dark fruit, plums and some spice character. Smooth on the palate with a concentration of fruit and a long finish. This is one of the favourite wines on taste in the Argentinian portfolio.

Felipe Rutini Malbec

Felipe Rutini Malbec 2008 was one of the wines on taste at the Oak Barrel during World Malbec Day. The wine is made from 100% Malbec grapes that come from old vines that are nearly 70 years old. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and has a rich palate with black fruit and a long, lingering finish with a touch of black pepper. Another of the favourite Argentinian wines on taste.

Valdivieso Sparkling Extra Brut NV

Valdivieso Sparkling Extra Brut NV comes from Curico in Chile and is very dry style sparkling wine. Made from 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir by methode Champenoise in the Lotue Valley, the wine is aged for 24 months on lees. It has dry fruit flavours, green apple with toasted brioche aromas.

Santa Rita Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2009 from Casablanca, Chile is a very different style to the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines with their tropical fruit flavours. Dry fresh, crisp and fresh, with zesty lemon characters,  on the nose, it has aromas of citrus and passionfruit and is good as an aperitif or with cold seafood.

De Martino Single Vineyard, Quebrada Seca Chardonnay 2010 from Limari in Chile is a vibrant and fresh chardonnay grown in calcaric soil which gives it mineral and fruity aromas. Made from 100% Chardonnay and aged 11 months in French oak, it has a creamy long finish on the palate. The wine is one of the favourites on taste from Chile and can be enjoyed now or kept up to 5 years.

De Martino Nuevo Mundo Carmenere

De Martino Nuevo Mundo Carmenere 2011 is an organic and carbon neutral wine from Maipo, Chile. The wine is made from the Carmenere grape and is said to have been “stored for 12 months with 70% kept in stainless steel tanks and the other 30 % in used French oak barrel trying to preserve the fruit”. It has a clean taste and delicate notes on berries and a hint of spice – an easy drinking style.

Santa Rita Reserva Carmenere

Santa Rita Reserva Carmenere 2010 from Central, Chile has a more rounded palate than the previous wine.Plums, dark fruit, soft tannins with spice characteristics and a long finish make this medium-bodied wine another favourite.

Perez Cruz Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 comes from a boutique winery and is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Syrah and 1% Carmenere. The wine is aged 12 months in French oak which gives it a full-bodied character with rounded tannins. Slightly aromatic with herbaceous notes, it has ripe red fruit on the palate with a little peppery spice

Perez Cruz Reserva Limited Edition Cot 2009 is made of 93% Cot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Carmenere. This is a potent red with aromas of fresh red fruit, black pepper and floral notes. The wine is aged in French oak for 14 months and has a long lingering finish. Another of the favourites of taste.
