Now that we’re into February, Sydney is gearing up for a host of foodie events to take the sting out of going back to work. Here are our top picks of upcoming events:
1. Din Tai Fung Monkey Buns
They may be too cute to eat but from February 1, until February 29, you can head down to Din Tai Fung for the limited edition Chinese New Year Monkey Buns to celebrate Chinese New Year. Available in Sydney at Din Tai Fung World Square, Central Park, Westfield Chatswood and Westfield Miranda, and in Melbourne at Emporium, these Monkey Buns or ‘Bao’ are steamed-to-order and come with a filling of banana and chocolate at $4.80 each.
2. Lunar Markets
The Sydney Morning Herald Lunar Markets are back again running from 4 to 14 February at Pyrmont Bay Park near by The Star. The Century at The Star will be one of the 20 stallholders along with The Star’s Fat Noodle, Hoy Pinoy Filipino street food, Everybody Loves Ramen, Bao Stop, and a collaboration between Black Star Pastry and N2 Extreme Gelato just to name a few.
Hours: Monday to Wednesday: 5pm-9pm; Thursday to Friday 5pm-10pm; Saturday 4pm-10pm; Sunday 4pm-9pm
3. Meatstock
Meatstock is coming to the Sydney Showgrounds on the 13th and 14th of February, a two-day meat filled extravaganza with bands, barbecues, beards, butchers, Buffalo Trace bourbon, barbers, beer and much more. You can expect Barbecue Wars, Butcher Wars, Barber Wars, the Meat and Barbecue Expo and a line-up of Blues and Country bands. Jess Pryles aka BurgerMary will host the Sydney Butcher Wars live on stage where some of best Australian Butchers break down a half a leg of lamb and half a saddle of pork within 45 minutes on a live stage. 4. March Into Merivale
February means March into Merivale is around the corner. This year’s theme of Guilty Pleasures brings a host of events running from 14 February to 20 March. The launch party is taking place on Wednesday 10 February for $45 which includes eight food and drink tokens. More info from www.marchintomerivale.com.au
