Chivas Regal Extra Launch with Chris Noth

Chivas Regal officially launched its latest blend, Chivas Regal Extra with guests of honour, actor Chris Noth and Chivas Regal Master Blender, Colin Scott at a secret location that was revealed at the last minute.

The elegant invitation teased about an evening of luxury and whisky with guest of Honour, Chris Noth, known for his role as Mr Big in Sex and the City and as Peter Florrick in The Good Wife.

Guests were chauffeured from various pick up locations and taken to a harbourside private mansion in Sydney’s Darling Point. It was Champagne Perrier Jouet on arrival and canapés by 4Fourteen as Sydney put on a spectacular electrical storm. VIP guests mingled around the display table with carved ice and various expressions of Chivas whiskies under glass cloches.

Colin Scott, Chivas Master Blender led a tasting journey of three Chivas Regal expressions starting with Chivas 12 YO then onto 18 YO and culminating with Chivas Extra. Refer to our detailed tasting notes here.

At the end of the tasting, guests were invited to “take it to the next level”, by taking the lift to the private apartment within the luxury home where Chris Noth welcomed everyone into the Mixology Room. Sam Egerton, Bar Manager at Palmer & Co prepared the Gentleman’s Agreement cocktail, made with Chivas Extra, Mezcal, Regal Rogue Bianco, Suze, ginger ale and peach liqueur while Ben Davidson of Pernod Ricard prepared the Silver Fox Fizz cocktail, with Chivas Extra, lime juice, sugar, kummel, egg white and soda.

Guests were then escorted to the next level, on the top floor of the mansion for an al fresco dining experience catered by 4Fourteen with city lights sparkling in the background. The menu included stuffed rainbow trout with fennel and orange, herb crusted lamb shoulder, roasted parsnips with onions and hazelnut and colcannon, a traditional Irish dish made of potatoes and kale.

Continuing the next level theme of taking the Chivas style to a new level of richness and flavour, guests moved downstairs for dessert and more cocktails, including the Sunset Boulevardier made with Chivas Extra, Regal Rogue Rosso, Lillet Rosé, cherry liqueur with peach and orange bitters. Chris Noth graciously posed for photographs with guests eager for a memento with Mr Big.

Australia was chosen as the first country to launch Chivas Extra, the first new expression in ten years. As a passionate advocate of Scotch Whisky and owner of ‘The Cutting Room’, a club in New York City, Chris Noth was chosen as a fitting ambassador for Chivas Regal Extra.

The Chivas Regal Extra Launch was held on Monday 13 October 2014 at a private mansion in Darling Point.
