If you’ve been to the Citibank Pop-up Bar at Vivid Sydney, you may have noticed that the food and beverages are provided by The Meat & Wine Co. Located at Darling Harbour a few steps away from the pop-up, the popular steakhouse knows how to satisfy hungry carnivores.
The Meat & Wine Co, Darling Harbour
A comprehensive wine list, including South African wines complements the grill-based menu as well as other main dishes. The restaurant is part of the Citibank Dining Program where cardholders are entitled to a free bottle of wine with dinner. Tonight, it is Verdelho and Shiraz from First Creek in the Hunter Valley.
Monte Select Rump Steak
Sink your teeth into a 300g Monte Select Rump ($27), grain-fed for 120 days with a selection of side sauces ($4 each) such as crumbled King Island Blue Cheese and Madagascan Green Peppercorn. The meat is well cooked, medium as ordered, charred on the outside, pink and tender on the inside and very easy to cut through. The chips are golden, puffed, crisp and well seasoned, and they come served in a half coconut shell with the bottom removed. The blue cheese sauce, however, is a little underwhelming.
Half Lamb Ribs
The Half Lamb Ribs ($29) are chargrilled with a lemon, herb and mustard marinade, a generously-portioned dish with meat that melts in the mouth. You get to wear a bib and you’re given with a finger bowl which you’ll need as these ribs are finger-licking good.
Tasmanian Salmon Skewer
Order any of the flame-grilled skewered dishes such as the Tasmanian Salmon Skewer ($32) and the wow factor sets in from the moment the dish is presented with the skewer standing upright on its own stand.
Vanilla crème brulee
Dessert doesn’t take second place with the Vanilla Crème Brulee ($12) with a good consistency and crunchy top,
Dark Chocolate and Pistachio Fondant
or the Dark Chocolate and Pistachio Fondant ($15), oozing with warm chocolate and served with vanilla bean ice-cream and a white chocolate and pistachio nougatine.
The Meat & Wine Co Steak Knives
The Meat & Wine Co at Darling Harbour is a steakhouse that serves well-cooked food with generous portions. The ambience is welcoming and service is friendly albeit a little disorganised with a large group. The top pick was the half lamb ribs. Just remember to remove the bib on your way out.
