The Exchange Hotel in Balmain is back, reopening its doors after a major transformation.
Originally opened in 1885, The Exchange Hotel in Balmain was declared officially closed in April 2017 and left abandoned. In July 2018, The Exchange has transformed the 132 year old building into a space that is open to everyone including families, couples and even four legged friends.
The Exchange Hotel in Balmain is an intimate space inviting guests to relax with an aperitif or quiet beverage from an extensive selection of spirits and crafted cocktails using seasonal ingredients. The venue also plays tribute to local tap houses and showcases Australia’s esteemed wine regions with their wine selection.
The concise food menu boasts a range of classic pub style meals as well as dishes designed to be shared amongst friends. The Charcuterie Board ($28) includes three delicious meats; Jamon Serrano, air dried beef and Salami accompanied by cornichons, Italian flat-bread, garlic dip and stick bread. The cheese selection features local and imported varieties ($28) or grab both for ($50).
For something more substantial, seven handmade pizzas are made from local and imported ingredients, including fresh Italian Mozzarella. The classic Margherita ($12) comes with buffalo mozzarella, olive oil & fresh basil while the ‘Mick’ ($16) is made with prosciutto cotto, prosciutto di parma, cherry tomato & balsamic onion.
A Poached Chicken Salad ($16) comes with marinated tomatoes, greens, lentils, topped with herb mayo and toasted pine nuts. For dessert, the Donut Fries ($18) are served with molten Nutella and there’s a take on the classic S’more ($8) with vanilla bean ice cream, puff pastry
and chocolate.
The Exchange is open seven days a week Monday – Tuesday 4pm-late, Wednesday – Sunday 12pm-late.
