Whisky and and nature enthusiasts take note. Switzerland has introduced its very first Whisky Trek and the highest one in the world at 2,502m above sea level.
The Trek is based in the historical canton of Appenzell, just one and a half hour away by a scenic train ride east of Zurich.
Säntis Malt Whisky is a Swiss Highlander whisku produced by the Locher brewery which uses soft spring water from the Alpstein mountains and ages its malt in unique storage in historical oak wood beer barrels. While Switzerland is not traditionally known for whisky, the history of whisky production in Appenzell dates back half a century and the whisky has won international awards due to the special barrels in which they are produced.
