More than 500 guests celebrated the spirit of Australia-China relations at a Moutai Gala Dinner held at Sydney’s Town Hall where a limited edition Moutai Australia Bottle was unveiled.
The VIP event celebrated 46 years since official relations were established between Australia and China over a series of entertainment and dinner which showcased local produce with Southern Highland duck breast, slow cooked pork belly and Black Angus tenderloin.
China’s national spirit brand, Moutai hosted the dinner and cocktail event which is part of a worldwide annual promotion that began in 2015 in San Francisco. Since then Hamburg and Cape Town have also played host to such a Moutai VIP Dinner.
Since Moutai was the drink that toasted the official commencement of Australia-China diplomatic relations in 1972, China has grown into Australia’s biggest trading partner. From just a handful of deals in the 1970s, last year Australia’s exports to China exceeded A$110 billion.
Moutai is available in more than 600 outlets across Australia including the Moutai Sydney Store and the company plans to woo non-Chinese drinkers by promoting Moutai as a mixer in western inspired cocktails. Pre-dinner Moutai cocktails featured Passionfruit Dragon Martinis, Shanghai Sour and Crimson Garden Crystal Rocks.
