October 5th marks the inaugural Global James Bond Day, a day-long series of events around the world celebrating the 50th anniversary of James Bond films.
The UK is celebrating with an auction of James Bond memorabilia at Christie’s with all proceeds going to a number of charities. In the US, a film retrospective will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and a Music of Bond Night hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. In some parts of the world, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 feature documentary will be screened in select theatres. As for Australia, information on celebrations has been scarce.
Bollinger 002 for 007*
To celebrate 50 years of James Bond films, Bollinger is releasing Bollinger 002 for 007 Collectors Edition. The limited edition gift pack houses the bottle of champagne in a box designed to look like the silencer of a Walther PPK handgun. Enter the code 007, press the pistol logo and the box opens. Mathieu Kauffmann, Bollinger’s Chef de Cave considers the 2002 vintage to be “the most exceptional vintage of the past decade” with an exceptionally fine mousse and light fruit.
At Gourmantic, we’ve both been long-term fans of the James Bond movies, Ian Fleming’s books, the posters, the soundtrack, and the cheesy one liners that we even scripted some of them in the opening segment of our wedding video. On this inaugural James Bond Day, we’ll be kicking back with a couple of “shaken not stirred” vodka martinis, maybe a Vesper Martini to accompany a late night viewing of Dr NO as we dream of owning the Bollinger 002 for 007 collectors edition pack.

We really love James Bond too… on James Bond day Roger Moore was on the French news show le Grand Journal…along with 2 of the French Bond girls. Loved seeing the old clips and hearing a little about “the behind the scenes”. A bottle of that Bollinger wouldn’t be bad either 🙂
