Brown Brothers has partnered with Adam Liaw, winner of Masterchef season 2 for the release of the new-look range of 1889 wines.

Named after the year John Francis Brown made his first vintage at the Milawa family winery in Victoria’s King Valley, the 1889 range celebrates the Brown family’s winemaking traditions, and is designed to be enjoyed and shared around the family table. The wines consist of a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Dry Rosé, Tempranillo, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Meals these days are all about sharing – whether it’s a special occasion or a casual meal at home, there’s often a variety of dishes and flavours on the table,” Caroline Brown said. “I think we have become too caught up with what wine matches to what food – a wine such as the 1889 Dry Rosé is perfect to drink across a variety of flavours.”

“Wines these days need to sit across a number of different dishes – no matter what meal you’re eating the 1889 range has got you covered,” Adam Liaw said.

Below are the provided tasting notes for the Brown Brothers 1889 wines:

2016 Brown Brothers 1889 Pinot Grigio

The 2016 Pinot Grigio is a pale straw colour in the glass with a youthful green hue. The nose is bursting with crisp pear and peach aromas, while the palate offers distinct savoury characters and a tight finish with delicate acidity thanks to the cool climate fruit. Unlike the French style which is richer on the palate, Pinot Grigio is crisp, fresh and savoury. Best served chilled and enjoyed within one to three years of vintage. RRP $18.30

2017 Brown Brothers 1889 Dry Rosé

The Dry Rosé is a blend of a number of varieties including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo. The combination of varieties adds to complexity and depth of the rosé. This second release shows a vibrant rose petal pink colour, with notes of watermelon, ruby grapefruit and citrus in the nose. The perfect summer wine, serve well chilled and drink within one year of vintage. RRP $18.80

2016 Brown Brothers 1889 Tempranillo

Tempranillo is an innovative varietal for Brown Brothers that is now released nationally due to its great success at Cellar Door. The wine has been developed in the Brown Brothers “Kindergarten Winery” – a mini winery focused on trialling small batches of new varietals and different wine making techniques. This vintage shows a vibrant purple colour with red berries and spices on the nose. It is medium bodied and soft on the palate, perfect for drinking over the next three years. RRP $18.30

2015 Brown Brothers 1889 Shiraz

The 2015 Shiraz has a bright brick red colour and medium-bodied in style. This wine has fantastic lifted aromas of red and dark berry fruits and the classic pepper notes of Heathcote Shiraz. These aromas follow through to the palate which has which has generous juicy fruit and a fine tannin structure. This supple Shiraz drinks well now but cellaring for 3 to 5 years from vintage will add complexity. RRP $18.80

2015 Brown Brothers 1889 Cabernet Sauvignon

Rich crimson in colour, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine which displays aromas of red currant, dried herbs and some dusty, earthy undertones. The juicy red berry fruits follow through to the palate, which is supple and savoury with fine, powdery tannins. The depth of colour and intensity of flavour show tremendous concentration and it will cellar for up to seven years from vintage. RRP $18.80
