Since we first reviewed Brasserie Ananas in November 2012, we have returned on numerous occasions. There were events such as the Miss Massenez launch, the inaugural Mr CBD, Cinq a Sept cocktails, Pavan Liqueur launch and more recently, a media lunch with Lillet area manager during her visit to Sydney from France.
The French welcome and warm hospitality are still part of the experience yet there have been some notable changes. The menu has been revamped with Executive Chef Paul McGrath at the helm and offers a tempting selection of dishes and daily specials that make it difficult to choose. And the red lip urinals by female artist Meike van Schijndel that were hastily removed last year are back.
The special entrée on the day is difficult to resist, Lobster Bisque, a perennial favourite, and a dish rarely seen in Sydney restaurants.
Lobster Bisque
The dish is presented with a piece of snapper, lobster, fennel, clam, mussel and chopped tomato…
Lobster bisque
… and the thick and luxurious bisque is poured on top, emitting a seductive aroma. This is a dish to be applauded and one that deserves a permanent spot on the menu.
Pork belly confit with pumpkin purée and almond
From the daily specials menu comes the pork belly confit with a wickedly delicious strip of crackling on top. The pork belly is perfectly cooked and in harmony with the flavoursome pumpkin purée.
Navarin of braised lamb shoulder
The navarin of braised lamb shoulder is presented in a cast iron pot. Lift the lid, and the aroma of sage and thyme permeates the air. Hearty, delicious and rich in flavour, the dish is served with roasted breast, braised vegetables, crumbed brain and a powdered gremolata on the side.
Ananas Urinals
