Australian Whisky at Black Penny, Surry Hills

Australian whisky has been gaining global recognition in recent years, winning coveted awards both locally and internationally. Interest in locally made spirits has also grown with the rise of local craft distillers producing quality products.

At Black Penny bar in Surry Hills, Australian whisky is taking centre focus. “We like Aussie whisky, and we like to promote it,” Mike McGrath, co-owner of Black Penny explains. “We have one of the largest Australian whisky collections including some rare whiskies.”

Black Penny has always stood by its ethos to feature and promote Australian producers and independent distillers, be it in craft beer, wine and spirits. Australian whisky is a natural progression.

You can find Starward Whisky from Melbourne, The Big Black Cock which we featured in our Top 10 Australian Craft Spirits from Mt Uncle Distillery in Cairns, Overeem and Lark Whisky from Tasmania, Crazy Uncle Moonshine from Perth, Sullivans Cove French Oak, Bakery Hill and Hellyers Road Peated whisky.
