April 17 marks World Malbec Day, a celebration of Argentina’s iconic red grape.
Now in its third year, the international event sees a number of tastings, toasts and celebrations around the world.
The Malbec grape grows in high altitude vineyards of Argentina. Abundant fresh air, sunshine and cool nights yield a medium-bodied wine that is deep in colour and rich in plum and berry flavours with a hint of spice. Sipped on its own, or as an accompaniment to food, the wine goes well with spicy meats, tapas, BBQs and cheese.
Vistalba Corte B
Top picks to enjoy on World Malbec Day are the Rutini 2008 Malbec, an elegant wine with a medium body and soft tannins, aged in oak for 12 months, Tomero Malbec, a smooth red with dark fruits and fine tannins, and the all-time favourite, Vistalba Corte A, a full-bodied Malbec with ripe red fruit aromas, rich and textural, with fine tannins that come from spending 18 months in new French Oak.
¡Salud!
