Aus Gin Day 2016

No doubt you’ve heard of World Gin Day but with the popularity of Australian craft distilling and gin in particular, it was time to have our own.

The House of Pocket (previously known as Pocket Group) is holding the first ever Aus Gin Day on Saturday 21 May 2016. And it’s going to be a ripper!

Spread across Stitch Bar in the CBD and Button Bar in Surry Hills, gin enthusiasts will have the chance to meet the distillers, aka Aussie gin legends while tasting their gin and learning about their craft.

Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Distiller’s Lunch

Hiramasa King fish, soy mustard, squid salt, micro leaf and fennel pollen paired with Stone Pone Gin with lemon myrtle Riesling, finger lime marmalade Gimlet.

Kangaroo tataki with black beer ponzo, native greens, pepperberry, tomato dust with Young Henry’s Noble Cut Gin with Bush Tomato Beer Fizz

Smoked spatchcock with sunrise finger limes, Sichuan pepper, spring onion and lemon with Adelaide Hills Native Gin citrus cobbler

What: 3 course gin-inspired lunch with Young Henry’s, Stone Pine and Adelaide Hills. Each course will highlight a native botanical and be paired with a cocktail.
Where: Stitch Bar, 61 York St Sydney
When: Saturday 21 May 2016
Time: midday to 2 pm
Cost: $65 + booking fee

2. Meet the Master Distillers Masterclass

What: Meet the legends behind Distillery Botanica, Archie Rose, Hobart no.4 Gin, Poor Toms
Where: Button Bar, 65 Foveaux St, Surry Hills
When: Saturday 21 May 2016
Time: 3pm to 5pm
Cost: $10 + booking fee

3. The Tonic Takeover

What: Local gin legends get behind the bar to show off their favourite Gin cocktail in the hope of being crowned Miss/Mr Aus Gin Day Legend 2016. Competing legends include: Sacha la Forgia (Adelaide Hills – The Distillery), Nathan (Hobart No.4), Lachie (Archie Rose), Reg (Ironbark Distillery) and local lads from Poor Toms.

When: Saturday 21 May 2016
Time: 6.30pm till late
Cost: free entrance
