The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

The Glenlivet has launched a new single malt, The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, a no age statement whisky that is a permanent addition to the range.

The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

The whisky has been created by Master Distiller, Alan Winchester as a tribute to founder George Smith’s original vision in 1824 to create a smooth, fruity Speyside single malt whisky. The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve is the product of marrying together select traditional ex American oak barrels along with a high proportion of First Fill American oak casks to create the fruit-driven profile.

Gold in colour, The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve has soft aromas of fresh pears and apples, citrus and fresh orange, some grassy notes and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it is light-bodied, fresh and vibrant with fruity sweet notes of pears, apples and oranges along with a vanilla character. The finish is smooth and short making it an easy sipping single malt.

The Glenlivet is the number 2 single malt Scotch whisky in the world and The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve is replacing The Glenlivet 12 year old which is estimated to be available until December 2015 in Australia.

Tasting

Fans of the Glenlivet will no doubt compare the new expression to the Glenlivet 12 yo but one has to keep in mind that it has not been created to replicate it. Founder’s Reserve is a new style of single malt, not designed to be similar to any Glenlivet expression, a youthful and exuberant whisky well suited to a novice entering the category.

At the launch event held at a private Penthouse in Sydney, Sladjan Maksimovic, Pernod Ricard Marketing Manager welcomed guests and introduced the new expression before Ben Davidson, Brand Ambassador gave a brief history of The Glenlivet and led a tasting of the Founder’s Reserve.

Founder’s Keepers Cocktail

The Founder’s Keepers cocktail was served on arrival, a take on the Whisky Collins made with The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, peach liqueur, Lillet Blanc, apricot jam, lemon juice and soda water. This refreshing aperitif style of drink enhanced the fruity notes of the whisky and demonstrated its versatility in cocktails.

After the formalities, guests were invited to taste the range of whiskies from The Glenlivet family.
