The Barber Shop Turns One

It seemed like only a few months ago that The Barber Shop in Sydney has opened its doors yet the popular York Street bar accessed through a barber frontage celebrated its first birthday this week.

There’s a sense of personal celebration when one of your favourite bars reaches its first milestone. Since our very first visit – complete with a shave and cocktails – there have been several momentous occasions where we dropped in for a drink, for good bar chat and general good times.

Lured by the impressive gin collection* at the back bar and a lust for Martinis, the Barber Shop has been a regular city stop after an event or a night out, for either a cleansing ale or a perfectly chilled Martini.

The birthday bash was a fun and joyous occasion punctuated with canapes, drinks and entertainment. There were Plymouth gin and tonics on arrivals. There were delicious Martini cocktails and Chivas Old Fashioned served throughout the night. And there was a Chivas Regal whisky chocolate birthday cake topped with figs and blueberries.

A tap dancing performance preceded the formal speech by owner Mike Enright where he thanked his business partners, Pernod Ricard, the Barber Shop team, particularly Bar Manager Petr Dvoracek and the customers who have made the business a success.

During its first year, The Barber Shop was a finalist for Best New International Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans and is nominated for 6 awards in the Australian Bartender Magazine Bar Awards.

Happy first birthday to The Barber Shop, to Mikey Enright, Petr Dvoracek and team. Thank you for the good times and cheers to many many more!
