The inaugural Mezcal Amores cocktail competition was held last night at Café del Mar in Sydney with Cristiano Beretta of The Rook taking out the first prize.

Entitled “In Love with Amores”, the competition had Sydney bartenders creating a cocktail using the agave spirit. Mike Tomasic of Mr Moustache came in second place,

and Rollo Anderson of TheLoft in the third spot. Following the announcements, the top three prepared their cocktails to select guests at the event.

The competition was judged by Jorge Cervantes (Mextrade Australia), Sam Bygrave (Australian Bartender Magazine), Ben Shipley (Everyday Drinking) and Corinne Mossati (Gourmantic) who visited every bar where the competing bartenders presented their cocktails.

Mezcal Amores is 100% artisanal mezcal with a strong commitment to the sustainability of agave and giving back to the community. The brand is a relative newcomer to Australia and is the third biggest selling in Mexico.
