Parched March 2013 Launch

Parched March launched on February 27th with a VIP cocktail party at The Loft on Kings Street Wharf with Ambassador Jamie Durie and his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Bodhi.

Founded in 2010 by Director Amy Cooper, Parched March celebrates Sydney’s bar culture and responsible drinking with a cause. The month-long event helps raise money for Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL), a charity that works to save and improve the lives of pets that have been surrendered, neglected or abandoned.

Guests enjoyed delicious cocktails from Parched March partners Suntory created by Jason Williams, Group Cocktail Manager for the Keystone group, starting with the elegant Cointreau Poodle (Cointreau, lemon curd, peach bitters, cranberry and lemon), to the delectable Disaronno Cherry Sour (Disaronno, cherry bitters, lemon and sugar) and finishing with the Pharmaceutical Stimulant, an inspiring pick-me up with Russian Standard Vodka, Tia Maria, espresso and sugar.

Sixty bars are participating this year including newcomers such as Kaya, The Botanist and Grain Bar. Others include Blu Bar on 36 at The Shangri-La hotel, Island Bar, Li’l Darling, Pocket Bar and many other favourite Sydney bars. Each venue is offering a special Parched March cocktail, with a portion of the price going towards AWL.

There are many events where you can get sponsored such as the 30 Bars in 30 Days challenge, or take part in the Parched March PUP-UP  where specially commissioned papier mache dogs decorated by Mambo artists, Jamie Durie and other celebrities will appear in participating venues then auctioned at the end of the month. One event that is certain to get the pulse racing is Mr CBD on March 21st 2013 at Ananas Bar and Brasserie with a beauty parade and auction of the hottest male city workers.

There’s never been a better excuse to drink responsibly in the name of charity. Bottoms up!
