World Class NSW Semi Finals 2013

The World Class NSW Semi Finals for 2013 for Round 1 were held at Eau de Vie Bar on Tuesday 23 October 2012. Four winners were selected from twelve finalists who competed behind closed doors in an afternoon session attended by competitors and judges. The winners were announced in the evening and guests had the opportunity to taste each of the winning cocktails.

Phil Gandevia

Phil Gandevia of the Roosevelt won the Martini Experience category with his cocktail Together Again, referencing Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin who were flown by Abe Saffron to perform at The Roosevelt in its heyday. The Martini has Ketel One Vodka, with Lustau Amontiliado Sherry, Jans Liquer and an atomised Orange Mist made with Ketel One infusion with saffron, gentian, and orange.

Luke Ashton

Luke Ashton won the Vintage Cocktail category with The Modern Love Cocktail, a “lusty libation” made with Tanqueray 10, with Strega Italian liqueur and house-blended Parfait Amour, with a bespoke fragrance (one for men, one for the ladies) sprayed on with an atomiser.

Jessica Arnott

Jessica Arnott of Gardel’s Bar won the American Cocktail category with her 1956 – An American Cocktail, made with Bulleit Bourbon, Pumpkin Pie Moonshine, Smoked Maple Syrup, Bob’s Chocolate Bitters and a pinch of salt. The drink pays homage to America’s two greatest inventions, Cocktails and Rock’n’Roll.

Christian Blair

In the After Dinner Cocktail category, Christian Blair of Eau de Vie Bar won with his Finca La Perla Zacapcino, made with Ron Zacapa rum, coffee liqueur, maple syrup, chocolate bitters, and toasted rice and banana-infused tres leche frothed to make a cappuccino style dessert cocktail.

Congratulations to all the NSW winners who will be joining other State winners to compete at the Round One Qualifier in Sydney.
