The Cottage Bar and Kitchen is located along trendy Darling Street in Balmain just past the Town Hall. Owners Rob and Osman, together with renowned designers Luchetti Krelle put together the concept of the venue complimenting Balmain’s rustic and industrial heritage. With a mixture of kitsch and vintage furniture, this sandstone Victorian cottage makes a charming venue that impresses food and cocktail lovers and locals who want to make it their regular hangout.

Cocktails were on offer at the new winter menu launch: Speyside Sour – Glendfiddich 12 year and ginger liqueur lengthened with lemon juice, honey water and finished with orange bitter, The Sloe Cuban – a twist on the mojito, Plymouth Sloe Gin shaken with pressed mint and lime and charged with soda and Lemon & Basil Gimlet – Citron Vodka and lemoncello are shaken with fresh basil, lemon and lime, all impeccably served and presented. Along with the cocktails, Balmain Pilsner, Villa Sandi Prosecco, Yealands Landmade Sauvignon Blanc and Wilson Pepperstone Shiraz were also served during the evening.

The selection of food on offer was taken from the winter menu. It included Yellow Tuna Tartare – with beetroot relish, apple, pickled fennel and dukkah, Arancini – of tomato, smoked mozzarella and parmesan, Mushrooms – stuffed with barley, dried fruit, herbs and chevre, Roasted Cauliflower – with pulled lamb shoulder, raisins and vinaigrette and, Maple & Cider Beef Brisket – with celeriac crisp and horseradish cream. The oyster bar served freshly-shucked oysters all evening.

Cheese lovers enjoyed a selection of fromages sourced from all over the globe, France, Spain, The Netherlands and Australia, and live entertainment added a nice touch to the ambience.

Overall, a great launch and an awesome place to head for a winter warm up.

The Cottage Bar and Kitchen food menu is inspired by ‘share-style’. Top-notch cocktails are from $17, craft beers from $8, bubbles from $8 per glass and an extensive wine list with some quirky twists.
