Lotus at Potts Points Returns as a Pop Up

Lotus, Potts Point’s award-wining bistro and cocktail bar is returning to Challis Avenue as an extended pop-up concept this spring. The Fish Shop will close its doors after seven years on Sunday 16 June.

Lotus

A jewel of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs for over a decade, Lotus was intimate, fun and decadent, representing a vibrant time in Kings Cross’ history. It was also a breeding ground for talent with the likes of Dan Hong (pictured) in the kitchen, Alexx Stuart behind the bar and Frank Roberts, Merivale’s now Chief Food & Beverage Officer, leading the charge on the floor.

Hong returns to the Potts Point kitchen where he made his mark eleven years ago. He joined Lotus in 2008 fresh from New York, giving the Mediterranean-style menu an Asian accent with the playful twists and turns he is now renowned for.  Lotus 2.0 will see the return of cult classics like the cheeseburger, tuna with sweet wasabi and hot fudge sundae, along with new fuss-free, super tasty dishes.

Merivale decided to bring back the institution for an extended pop-up and farewell to Challis Avenue, following the sale of the iconic property last month. The Hemmes family acquired the three-story building in 1988 when they began their first serious foray into hospitality – originally with a coffee shop, before Lotus in 2002.

“We’re thrilled to bring back Lotus for one last hurrah. It was an institution for ten years and created amazing memories for so many of our guests and staff”, says Justin Hemmes, CEO of Merivale.

The Fish Shop will open for its last service on Sunday 16 June, after seven years in operation. Five of those were captained by the late, great Jeremy Strode – one of Australia’s most loved and respected chefs whose expertly-cooked seafood made The Fish Shop a much-loved dining destination in Sydney’s East.

The Lotus pop-up will open after a quick refurbishment in spring. More to come.
