Gripped by World Cup fever? Bridge St Garage and Brazilian Style Imports hosted A Taste of Brazil dinner celebrating Brazilian cuisine and showcasing a range of products from Brazil that can be used in the home.
Bridge St Garage
Bridge St Garage is a casual American style diner with Argentinian chef Oscar Gorosito at the helm.
Bridge St Garage, Dining Area
You’ll find it located opposite the ASX in Sydney’s CBD next to the relocated Rockpool and Cafe Sopra. The retro style fitout gives a nod to nostalgia with an industrial design with bare bricks, exposed concrete ceilings, timber panel walls, steel, glass and copper tubing.
Booth Seating
The restaurant which opened its doors a little under a year ago has a service only bar, cosy booths and a high table suitable for groups
Classic Caipirinha with Velho Barreiro Cachaça
The Taste of Brazil evening started with a Classic Caipirinha, refreshing and easy-sipping, made with Velho Barreiro Cachaça, a classic mix of the sugar cane liquor, sugar and lime.
Guarana Antarctica
For a non-alcoholic option, Guarana Antarctica was on offer. Touted as Brazil’s most popular soft drink, it’s a fruity and sweet drink made with Guarana berries from the Amazon jungle. Guarana Antarctica is the official sponsor of the Brazilian national football team.
Tapioca Cheese Bread with Argentinian Chimichurri Sauce
One of Brazil’s favourite snacks, Pao de Queijo consists of tasty bites of Tapioca Cheese Bread with an Argentinian Chimichurri Sauce. The addictive bread which can be made at home with Yoki Tapioca Cheese Bread Mix.
Casquinha de Siri
Casquinha de Siri was a delicious and flavoursome dish of sauteed crab meat with coconut milk, Brazilian Dende oil, tomatoes, bell peppers, Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs baked in scallop shells. The dish was served on top of a citric salad of pomegranate, orange and rocket with kiss peppers adding a touch of heat.
The entree was paired with one of Brazil’s leading wine producers, an interesting blend of varietals, 2013 Miolo Pinot Grigio Riesling from the Campanha region in the south. The wine is light, fruity and very quaffable with seafood or on its own on hot summer days. The winery was started by an Italian immigrant in 1897 and produces a variety of wines including sparkling.
Acai Berry Smoothie with Velho Barreiro Cachaca
Misleading to the eye, the Açaí Berry Smoothie was not a sweet, sugary dessert drink but an alcoholic beverage made with Velho Barreiro Cachaça, and açaí berry, a purple fruit known for its high antioxidant benefits. Here, the drink was made with Amazoo Açaí, a product available as a smoothie without the alcohol.
Grill at Bridge St Garage Kitchen
Brazilian Style Imports bring in a range of Scheer rotisserie and grills which are found in restaurants such as Bridge St Garage, Papi Chulo and Cafe Vue at Heide. The equipment can also be used in residential kitchens and home barbeques.
New York Steak
Hot off the grill came the New York Steak, a tender grass-fed striploin steak that was grilled over Charcoal Parilla, served pink with a side of hand cut chips, beer-battered onion rings and coleslaw salad.
Grilled Chicken
The Grilled Chicken was the star of the night, moist and flavoursome, grilled over Charcoal Parilla with a spicy mole sauce and rice topped with Brazilian black beans.
The main courses were served with a delicious 2011 Miolo Tannat, a medium-bodied red wine with fine tannins and good structure – a wine worth keeping an eye out for in restaurants.
Brownie with Cachaca-infused Rhubarb Ice Cream
Dessert was a sweet sensation with a rich Brownie with Rhubarb Ice Cream laced with Velho Barreiro Cachaca, with a chilli guava jam, sprinkled with Pacoquinha, ground peanut candy. To finish, a Strawberry Caipirinha was served, a sweet mix of strawberry puree, sugar syrup, cachaca and muddled lime.
