In the past few years, the eating strip along Coogee Bay Road has favoured fast food joints and café style eateries, catering for the backpacker population and alienating the locals who prefer a better end of dining.

And with that in mind, on a hot summer’s day when finding a patch of sand to park a towel on Coogee Beach feels like a treasure hunt, there is one thing to do and that is to join them.
Coogee Beach on New Year’s Day
You’ll find Beach Burrito tucked inside a courtyard off Coogee Bay Road, a few steps away from the beach. Theindoor and outdoor Mexican-style food joint serves up value for money tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taquitos and salads.
The menu is divided into their Specialty and Fajitas burritos, the latter toasted and smothered with fajita-styled sauce. Drinks include Coronas, other Mexican beers, Margaritas and soft drinks.
Pulled seasoned beef burrito
The beef burrito has beef that’s been slow cooked for 8 hours in chillies and spices then pulled apart. It comes with Mexican rice, black beans a smoky salsa, green onions, lettuce, guacamole and sour cream. The rice component overpowers the beef but overall, this is a filling serve for one to for two to share.
Chipotle chicken tacos
The chipotle chicken tacos are made of soft corn tacos, with chicken, chipotle, tomatoes and guacamole. Pick one up and it falls apart but they’re favoursome and you’ll wish you had ordered more than two.
Beach Burrito offers good value for money, making it a popular choice among the consistent backpacker crowd. This is fast food that isn’t necessarily fast on a hot summer’s day where a forty minute wait was the norm. But there is one perk to the long wait. You get to see the international parade of bronzed twenty-somethings in their stunning swimwear. And I’m not just talking about the girls.

Mmm, yum! How do these compare to Guzman y Gomez?
I haven’t tried theirs. Not usually into fast food but this place was a lot of fun 🙂
