El Camino Cantina, The Rocks

El Camino Cantina brings Tex-Mex with a whole lot of rock and roll attitude to Sydney.

Taking up residence at the former site of Ananas, as the latter is on the move to Darling Harbour, El Camino Cantina has a touch of the Austin, Texas cantinas about it. From the neon lit restaurant, shiny topped diner stools, a couple of 1957 Chevy trunks with serve yourself fresh salsas and chips plus plenty of rock and roll music and videos. In the space near the kitchen you can take a seat where number plates, Mexican iconography and half face/half skull Day of the Dead style artworks of long and recently lost musical legends adorn the walls.

The menu offers from light bites, think nachos and tacos with fillings of marinated barbacoa pork and lobster to name a few through to enchiladas and sizzling fajitas. More substantial dishes from the grill like Carne Asada, wagyu beef steak with a lime and pepper marinade and the El Camino steak which is the Carne Asada topped with jalapeños and melted jack cheese.

The bar has margaritas in classic, mango and strawberry either on the rocks or frozen to enjoy. There is a specialty cocktail list that is all about tequila which is no surprise as there is a list of over 200 tequilas and mezcals on the back bar to try. Add to this a selection of Mexican beers plus some local craft beers and you have plenty to settle back with.

El Camino Cantina is all about having fun. So grab some friends and head down for tasty food, music and margaritas with a touch of madness.
