1963 was a landmark year for whisky when Sandy and Charles Grant Gordon launched Glenfiddich Straight Malt worldwide at a time when blended whisky dominated the market. Today, Malt Master Brian Kinsman has reproduced the original 1963 single malt and recreated it as Glenfiddich The Original.
Glenfiddich The Original
Glenfiddich The Original was launched in Australia at a pop up bar at The Lord Dudley Hotel on 3rd June and will be available there to taste until Sunday 7 June.
The whisky was presented by Laura Hay and Richard Blanchard, WG & Sons Whisky Ambassadors and paid homage to the pioneering spirits that has become somewhat of a trademark of William Grant & Sons.
The launch event included a series of short videos paying homage to three families, the Carayannis family who has been running the Rosebery Service Station since 1926, the Couche family who has been running the Lord Dudley Hotel since 1983 and the Foti family who first provided fireworks for Sydney Harbour in 1969.
When it comes to taste, compared to Glenfiddich 12 yo, Glenfiddich The Original is a lighter version, smooth on the palate making it a delicate and very approachable single malt. It is unmistakably Glenfiddich with the familiar baked apples, pears and sweet honey notes with a hint of citrus.
Glenfiddich The Original is a limited release with only 6,400 bottles available in Australia from June 2015 and is priced at $100 RRP.
