On the third Thursday of every November, it is proclaimed that le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! All over France, you’ll find signage announcing that the new vintage has arrived.
Australia may be on the opposite side of the world but it heralds the celebrations ahead of France as bottles of the Beaujolais Nouveau are flown in that morning to be consumed later in the day.
Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2011 – Georges Duboeuf
Moncur Cellars in Woollahra held a tasting session in their Tasting Room, and the general consensus was that is year’s vintage is a standout compared to recent years. The young wine has a lot more body, fruit and lingers on the palate longer.
Much like previous years, the 2011 bottle now joins the personal collection of of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau bottles on display in the kitchen shelf.

It seems like they had unusual weather this year which made them harvest the grapes a little early. Possibly explains why the quality is better than previous years. Cheers!
Makes sense because it definitely has red fruit that lingers on the palate. Compared to previous years, it has more body and very little acidity. I have another bottle I’m keeping for a few weeks. Interesting to see how it develops.
Nice to see a new bottle for your collection, hope you had a great celebration… et bon weekend!
I’m disappointed it wasn’t the pretty label someone sent me on Twitter. I wish they’d go back to the previous designs, much more appealing!
