The Ultimo Wine Centre’s Annual Champagne tasting is an event that holds a permanent mark in our calendars. Every year, the UWC present a range of Champagnes on taste from leading Champagne houses as well as some of the smaller growers and new marques in France.
Having outgrown its usual premises in Ultimo, the event moved to the Golden Century Seafood Restaurant at the Entertainment Quarter in Fox Studios, a more comfortable venue to move around without the usual risk of bumping into Grands Crus in the shop.
Lombard Brut NV & Lombard Brut Grand Cru 2004
There were 24 varieties on taste from the Champagne region and 3 Sparkling wines from Château de L’Aulée in the Loire Valley. The restaurant provided tasty canapés and nibbles which did well to facilitate the tasting over a three hour period.

Playing favourites with Champagne is often a challenge. We particularly enjoyed the Gosset Grande Reserve NV, Larmandier Bernier Crémant 2005, Laurent -Perrier Vintage 2000 and Louis Roederer Vintage 2004.
In addition, the Jacquesson Cuvée 734, Chartogne-Taillets Vintage 2002 and Lombard Brut Grand Cru 2004 made a lasting impression. Also worth a mention is the Louis Roederer Brut Rosé NV for leaving a mark on someone who doesn’t usually enjoy drinking pink bubbles.

As with previous UWC Champagne tastings, the representatives of the Champagne houses and the Ultimo Wine Centre team turned the event into a memorable and informative evening.
The Ultimo Wine Centre Annual Champagne Tasting was a free event held on Tuesday 7 December 2010 from 6.00 to 9.00 pm at the Golden Century Seafood Restaurant.
