Toppi Martin Place will champion a late-night dining culture in Sydney when it officially opens at Sixty Martin Place on Friday 15 November.
The Italian late-night restaurant is named after chef and owner Paola Toppi of Bar M at Rushcutters Bay. She began her career in 1988, joining her mother and Sydney restaurateur Giovanni Toppi, where she taught Toppi the art of managing a successful business while cooking beautiful Italian dishes. She then launched Bar M (formerly known as Bar Machiavelli) at 10 Neild Avenue in 2016, offering refined glamour and rustic home-made Neapolitan style cooking to Sydney’s Rushcutters Bay.
Toppi Martin Place is slated to be a place for people to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of the CBD and embrace Toppi’s vision of ‘La Dolce Vita’. Designed by Steel + Stitch, Toppi Martin Place is an expansive 30 metre long restaurant, with rich, dark aesthetics with sandstone, steel and beige tone accents. Here, Sydneysiders can enjoy glamorous yet refined home-made Italian dishes in a variety of dining experiences.
The elevated Pasta Bar serves the house-made pasta dishes chef Toppi is renowned for, like her signature duck ravioli with sage, browned butter and duck jus, tagliolini with lemon, butter and blue swimmer crab and tagliatelle sciue sciue with king prawns, cherry tomatoes and chilli. Theatrically prepared in front of guests, the pastas will continually evolve due to Toppi’s close workmanship on new pasta trends and in-season produce.
The Cocktail Bar is an ideal spot for those looking for a bite in-between meetings or after work, with plenty of sharing-style plates off antipasti and cured meats, pasta tasters and seafood, featuring four varieties of the chosen cuisine.
The Dining Room provides a more formal dining experience, with mains heroing seafood and meats, alongside decadent pasta dishes. Think ‘wagyu eye fillet alla pizzaiola’ with spicy tomato sauce, garlic chilli and potato mash, butterflied and grilled scampi with lemon and garlic butter sauce, and ‘spatchcock alla cacciatora’ – baked spatchcock in a tomato, mushroom, rosemary and garlic sauce.
A private dining room caters for guests looking to host events and meetings in the CBD, or an intimate lunch or dinner.
The wine list has been curated by bar manager Matteo Belkeziz, featuring a beautiful blend of Italian, local and international wines. The cocktail list is built on Italian classics with barrel-aged negronis made with grappa, in-season fruit bellinis, and Toppis’ ultra-decadent Tiramisu Martini.
Toppi Martin Place opens on Friday 15 November 2019.
