The Oak Barrel in Sydney held an in-store tasting of Patrón Tequila. The tasting which took place on Thursday 29 September 2011 was an opportunity to become acquainted with their range of premium tequila.
Patrón Tequila is made from 100% blue Weber agave which is harvested, roasted, crushed, distilled and bottled in Jalisco, Mexico using a combination of traditional techniques and modern technology. The bottles are handmade from recycled glass and each is hand-numbered.
(L to R) Patrón Añejo – Patrón Reposado – Patrón Silver
Starting with Patrón Silver, it’s very smooth with fresh agave notes and hints of citrus. After a recent tasting of the José Cuervo Tequila range, I find Patrón Silver a lot smoother and easier than drink than the José Cuervo Silver.
Patrón Reposado is aged in American oak barrels for a minimum of two months which gives it a light amber hue. With subtle oak aromas on the nose and a sweet flavour with notes of honey, it sits on the fence between Patrón Silver and Patrón Añejo and would make a good Margarita cocktail.
Patrón Añejo is aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months which gives it a warm amber colour. The oak is evident on the nose with less citrus than the predecessors. Sweeter on the palate with caramel and honey notes, this is a Tequila to sip like a whisky or a Cognac.
Patrón Citrónge is a tequila-based orange liqueur and sits somewhere in between Cointreau and Grand Marnier. Clear in colour with orange notes, it has a sweet orange flavour. A liqueur that leaves me divided, I am more likely to use in a crêpe suzette or in a cocktail than drink on its own.
Patrón XO Café blends tequila and coffee in a decadent liqueur. Rich and dark in colour, the strong fresh coffee aroma and flavour subdue the taste of the agave. Good on its own, or in a cocktail such as the one we’ve had at Hemingway’s Manly, this one of the best coffee liqueurs I’ve tasted.

Patron tequila is quite the best I’ve ever had – Añejo is a real favorite in California. Again, lucky you!! Looking forward to your next “tasting adventure” – I’m sure it’s coming soon 🙂 bon weekend.
I’m rather partial to Patron as well, enjoyed the Silver and Añejo! How did you guess the next tasting will be soon? 🙂
