Newport Arms Hotel: Bistro Food with Water Views

If you’re looking to impress a visitor to Sydney and show them icons beyond the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, take a drive to the north side. The Newport Arms hotel is a prime spot to enjoy a causal meal by the water in a location that would make Sydneysiders fall in love with their city all over again.

The pub was established in 1880 which makes it one of the city’s oldest and by virtue of its age, a historic site. It boasts a restaurant for more formal dining as well as a popular bistro with indoor seating and an outdoor area that is kid-friendly spot.

The Bistro menu offers a choice of fish and chips, pizzas, salads, burgers, pastas and seafood. Main courses range from $19 for calamari and chips to $39 for a BBQ seafood platter for one. Kids meals cost $10 and were a decent size for the little ones.

Jugs of beer are a popular sight. So popular in fact, that they require you to pay a $10 deposit which is refunded on return. I can only gather that people were keeping them as souvenirs at one point.

The food is a little overpriced for what you get. But just other pubs with water views, you are paying for the location. And it is a delightful one.
