Ananas Bar & Brasserie by the Urban Purveyor Group is closing its doors on April 2 and relocating to the boulevard dining precinct at the soon-to-open International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) at Darling Harbour. In its place, El Camino Cantina, an Austin, Texas-inspired Tex-Mex restaurant will open and will stock more than 75 speciality tequilas and mezcals. 18 Argyle St, The Rocks

From the ACME team, Bar Brosé, a wine bar is set to open at the site that was formerly The Passage in Darlinghurst. The wine bar will offer natural wines along with a French food influence. 31a Victoria Street, Darlinghurst.

From Walsh Bay to the Galeries and now Grosvenor Place, Lotus is expanding. The new venue will open at Grosvenor Place’s Piazza with an al fresco offering and a focus on dumplings and cocktails. Grosvenor Place, Sydney

Los Vida in Crows Nest has opened a new small bar, La Cantina with a recently appointed Tequila and Mezcal Sommelier. Upstairs, 419 Pacific Highway, Crows Nest

Japanese eatery KY-OTO has opened on Chippendale’s Kensington Street with an intimate dining room and a casual courtyard space spilling onto Spice Alley. Expect ramen, udon dishes, okonomiyaki, takoyaki octopus balls and tempura. 38 Kensington Street, Chippendale

The Newport, the latest in the Merivale developments has officially opened on Good Friday with Executive Chef Sebastien Lutaud offering a menu reflective of the Northern Beaches’ coastal lifestyle. Dishes include fresh seafood including classic fish and chips, salt and pepper calamari and crispy basil prawns; seasonal salads and smoked brisket, barbeque chicken and hot-smoked salmon.  2 Kalinya St, Newport

Bar Chinois, (pictured above), a hip, chic, French-Asian fusion bar has opened at Kensington Street offering French food with an Asian twist. Think Sticky Pork Belly Baguette with camembert, caramelised onion, pickled cucumber, red chili, daikon, coriander and mint, or Croque Monsieur with smoked ham, gruyere cheese, béchamel and cauliflower pickle. Drinks include teapot cocktails and Monsieur Earl or Bijou. 16 Kensington Street Central Park

From the team behind The Corner House and Panama House in Bondi, Hunter Gatherer is close to opening in North Sydney’s Greenwood Plaza with Chef Paul Mick Mickelwright with a focus on local produce, craft beer, local spirits and natural wines. Pacific Hwy & Miller St, North Sydney NSW 2060

Earl’s Juke Joint is opening a new David Lynch themed bar. Jacoby, named after Twin Peaks character, Dr Lawrence Jacoby will have Tiki offerings and a nod to Hawaiian culture. 154 Enmore Road, Enmore

New restaurant Rawsons is launching into the Epping Club with Executive Chef Nick Whitehouse (MasterChef the Professionals) with a focus on produce and three or four key ingredients that bring out the best in a familiar protein. Expect dishes such as ‘raw clams’ with a distinctive smoked bacon flavour,  and ‘free range chicken breast “al mattone” (cooked under a brick), stone fruit, dressed grains and jus vinaigrette’ as a signature main. 45 Rawson St, Epping

It’s with a heavy heart that we report that Hello Sailor in Darlinghurst has been sold and will cease operating on April 11. The venue hosted Gourmantic’s 5th Birthday Party in 2014 and has been a favourite since it opened in 2013. But in exciting news, in its place, Big Poppa’s Italian restaurant and cocktail lounge will open later in the year by Lewis Jaffrey of Swillhouse Group and Jared Merlino of The Lobo Plantation.
