Marta by Popolo’s Flavio Carnevale is set to open in mid September bringing cucina romana to in Rushcutters Bay.
Opening in Popolo’s former premises with a new look and feel, the venue takes inspiration from the colour and diversity of Rome.
A new open-style kitchen is set to bring dishes such as baked anchovies with sautéed curly endive, bucatini mussels tomato e pecorino, tonnarelli (thick spaghetti) cacio e pepe, abbacchio alla scottadito (lamb cutlets) and filetti di baccalà (cod fillet). The menu will run alongside a Roman week with daily house specials designed to celebrate regular patronage.
The bar offering, with high-topped tables and a dedicated spritz bar-inspired drinks list is geared to embody the energy and theatre of Rome’s famous drinking holes. Amphora wines will play a feature role at Marta, with wines poured from Flavio’s custom handmade terracotta decanters to take them back to their original element.
The fitout has been curated by Melbourne’s DesignOffice responsible for venues such as A. Baker and Higher Ground, incorporating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, new feature lighting and various seating styles, a refreshed outdoor courtyard, and a brighter neutral palette.
Marta is slated to open in mid-September 2017.
