Eliza Food & Wine has opened in Darlinghurst, bringing a casual and stylish eatery to the inner Sydney suburb.
Eliza Food & Wine is located along Victoria Street in Darlinghurst, and the new venture by Owner and executive chef, Jeremy Bentley, who owned and operated one hatted restaurant ‘the devonshire’ in Surry Hills for 7 year is about inventive food and a sophisticated wine list with an expectation of delivering exceptional service.
The menu is designed to be approachable offering contemporary food that is rooted in classic techniques.
The double fronted opening onto buzzng Victoria St features colours of pale salmon pink and muted teal combine with cognac leather and natural wood to give the space a modern look. There’s seating along the bar, banquettes, outdoor seating and a high chef’s table near the kitchen pass.
Bentley, together with head chef, Shaz Akbar, have created a menu with dishes designed to be enjoyed together, focusing on top quality fresh food where the ingredients do the talking. Chef favourites include roasted pork belly, smoked almond & charred gem lettuce; curried baby corn, chickpea, coconut, lime & coriander; slow cooked lamb shoulder, BBQ eggplant & rosemary; and raspberry tea crème brulee, milk sorbet.
The wine list focuses on a balance of variety and style to complement the food and has been kept small specifically to allow for flexibility and to deliver a regular rotation of wines. With a slight bias towards South Australian wines where both Jeremy and his business partner Simon Rabbitt grew up, the list extends on varietals from both the new world and old world.
The name “Eliza” pays homage to the location’s heritage with Darlinghurst named after Eliza Darling the popular wife of Governor Darling.
