Where to Eat in the Clare Valley: Artisans Table Wine Bar & Bistro, The Rising Sun Hotel, Sevenhill Hotel

When it comes to local produce, the Clare Valley can be viewed as the poorer sibling to that other popular region in South Australian, the Barossa. But the Clare, as it affectionately known, has little gems that are waiting to be discovered.

While seafood and shellfish are scarce, duck features predominantly on menus, along with popular fare such as steak and burgers using produce from the region.

Below is our restaurant and pub guide on where to eat in the Clare Valley.

Artisans Table Wine Bar & Bistro

Artisans Table Wine Bar & Bistro is a renowned restaurant in the Clare Valley, located a few metres from the Riesling trail.

Perched high with a large terrace overlooking a tranquil landscape, the restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining depending on the seasons.

A modern fitout with sleek lines and dark accents gives it a contemporary edge while retaining rustic features.

The well-priced menu by chef Roger Graham is a melee of European, Asian and modern Australian flavours.

The Bar

You’ll find dishes such as albondigas, macadamia crumbed chicken breast, and a prawn laksa on the changing black board menu. Some dishes such as the duck hit the spot, others miss the mark. Service is slow, even disinterested at times so be prepared to wait if you’re hungry.

Seven Hill Hotel, The Cellar Dining Room

The Sevenhill Hotel is conveniently located 12 minutes north of Auburn and five minutes south of the Clare Valley.  The rustic underground cellar stocks the largest local Clare Valley Red Wines and amidst all the bottles, you may never want to leave.

You may think you’re forgotten in the cellar but security cameras ensure service is prompt and it always arrives with a smile and a friendly face.

Surprisingly, very few wines are available by the glass and there is no wine list. For white wines, you simply choose from what is available in the wine fridge located upstairs behind the bar. The red wines are all displayed in the cellar.
