Chartreuse VEP & Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Sommeliers

Bar flies can soon taste new spirits with the recent launch of three new expressions of Chartreuse into the Australian market.

The vintage Chartreuse Cuvée des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France – Sommeliers (45% ABV) was created in 2007 by the Carthisuan monks. The spirit undergoes a separate maceration process to the yellow Chartreuse.

Golden in colour, the liqueur has intense aromas and candied citrus sweetness with herbal notes such as licorice and fennel. Soft on the palate, the sweetness is not as pronounced as the yellow Chartreuse nor is the flavour as herbaceous as the green Chartreuse. The liqueur goes well with cloudy apple juice and lime, or simply chilled.

Chartreuse VEP stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolongé, is made from the regular Chartreuse which is then aged for an indeterminate time in oak casks until it reaches the desired quality.

The Yellow Chartreuse VEP (42% ABV) is more herbaceous on the nose with less honey sweetness than the regular yellow liqueur and has a more complex character. The Green Chartreuse VEP (54% ABV) has strong herbaceous notes with dominant aniseed and a smooth as a result of the extra ageing making it a luxurious spirit to sip and savour neat.

Both VEP expressions are presented in the same style of bottle as the one used in 1840 and come with a wax sealed cork and a wooden box marked with a branding iron.

The launch of the new Chartreuse expressions was held by Chartreuse Chevalier Nathan Bradbery with Philippe Rochez from Chartreuse Diffusion at The Victoria Room where you can enjoy a selection of special Chartreuse cocktails crafted by Bar Manager and Chevalier, Luke Hanzlicek.
