Australian Craft Gin is undergoing noticeable growth with several boutique brands and small distilleries taking up the juniper spirit. In this article, we taste and present three Australian gin, Moore’s Vintage Dry Gin, Botanic Australis Gin and Stone Pine Dry Gin.

Moore’s Vintage Dry Gin
Hailing from Distillery Botanica (formerly St Fiacre Distillery) in Erina along the Central Coast of NSW, Moore’s Vintage Dry Gin is made in a small craft distillery by distiller Philip Moore.
Seven botanicals including Australian natives go into making the gin, each distilled separately using the vapour infusion method. This is a punchy gin when tasted neat and lends itself to a good chilled dry Martini.
Distillery Botanica also produces a range of liqueurs using Australian natives, Distillery Botanica Gin and Mr Black Coffee liqueur.

Botanic Australis Gin
Craft-distilled at the Mt. Uncle Distillery in North Queensland, Botanic Australis Gin is crafted by Distiller, Mark Watkins. Fourteen native botanicals are used which include Lemon Myrtle, Finger Lime and Lemon Scented Gum.
The gin has a flavour that is distinctive and herbaceous. While the juniper is evident on the palate, it has a grassy and citrus character with a clean finish. A complex spirit, it is a gin that can be sipped neat, and goes well in a Gin and Tonic and in a dry Martini with a twist.

Stone Pine Dry Gin
From Bathurst in New South Wales comes Stone Pine Dry Gin, pot distilled in small batches and made using a blend of native and traditional botanicals which are a well-guarded secret.
Owned by Bev and Ian Glen, Stone Pine Distillery is a boutique distillery which produces a range of handcrafted spirits and liqueurs. Ian Glen is the distiller and his gin is a winner of the silver medal at the 2013 International Wine & Spirit Competition in London in the London Dry Category.
Stone Pine Dry Gin is noticeably citrus-driven with a little spice on the front palate. It fares best in a gin and tonic, and due to its citrus character, it is preferred in a Martini with an olive.
