Best New Sydney Restaurant & Bar Openings – January 2016

Welcome to our first round up for 2016, the January listing of new and upcoming Sydney restaurants and bars.

Fresh Catering are opening No. 10 Bistro at The Mint, on Monday February 3rd with Chef Simon Collier of Vaucluse House Tearooms at the helm. 10 Macquarie Street Sydney.

Fresh Catering are also opening a retail concept store on the ground floor in the Bullion Room, No. 10 Store, selling Fresh Flowers, premium gifts, espresso and breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea items located on the ground floor. 10 Macquarie Street Sydney.

Stanbuli, a new restaurant by the Porteno team has opened with Chef Ibrahim Kasif bringing Turkish mezze style plates to the inner west suburb. 35 Enmore Road, Enmore and is open Wed – Sat 6pm – late; Sun noon – 10pm.

The Island Bar on Cockatoo Island will be serve last drinks in its current location on February 29 before it moves to a new yet-to-be announced location. Stay tuned!

Popular Surry Hills pub, the Carrington Sydney is launching The Hip Hop Chicken Shop as a pop-up on 23rd January. Menu items include Deep Fried Chicken Wings with Beer Glaze and Blue Cheese, Mac n Cheese with Chipotle Aioli, and Whole 1.2kg chicken with crunchy spuds for 2. From 5pm every Saturday in February. 565 Bourke St, Surry Hills.

Melbourne’s popular Beer DeLuxe has opened in Sydney at Darling Harbour. Occupying two floors at King Street Wharf. The emphasis is on local craft beers with 20 on tap and casual food. 9 Lime St, King St Wharf.

Assembly Restaurant has opened by the team behind Assembly Bar in the CBD serving Italian inspired fare and wood-fired pizzas. 488 Kent St, Sydney

Kensington Street Social, the third restaurant in the Old Clare Hotel has opened this month with chef Jason Atherton bringing an inventive menu at breakfast, lunch and dinner. 3 Kensington Street, Chippendale

  • George’s Bar has opened in Melbourne’s Fitzroy, a themed bar dedicated to Seinfeld’s George Costanza. 120 Johnston Street, Fitzroy
  • A new bar from the Team at Akiba in Canberra will open in Canberra in mid 2016.
