Spring has sprung and as well as flowers opening there is plenty of enticing openings to shake off the end of those winter chills and enjoy Sydney’s new offerings.

There is so much happening at Geisha Haus with interesting cocktails,  some are prepared at your table with a touch of theatre, quality sakes, fresh and clean food such as Haus Cigar Sashimi tuna tartare served in savoury pastry cigar plus supporting the performing arts be it the monthly movie competition or burlesque nights. Dead Ringer

Dead Ringer is the latest from the Bulletin Place team. A focus on food by Chef Tristan Rosier with share plates like Pork Jowl Terrine and Beef Tartare with pickled eggplant plus more bigger serves such as Barramundi with Romesco mussels to name a few. Cocktails are to the high standard we are used to from this team with fortified wines used as a key ingredient and match well with the food. Read about Dead Ringer here.

Simmer Huang

With an ancestor who was Master Chef to the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Simmer Huang serves up Simmer pots that are their take on the traditional Chinese hot pots. Fresh ingredients and secret sauces come together and are cooked at your table. Cocktails have an unique spin with some of the ingredients being peanut soup, Chinese hawthorn sugar, Makgeolli, and jujube tea. Read about Simmer Huang here.

Mrs Mi

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto is the way to thank the worlds first assistant robot chef at Mrs Mi as he assists Chef Michael Tan in preparing  knife shaved Shanxi noodles and with dumplings, soups and traditional regional pancakes filling out the menu there is more here than just the mechanical man. Kagura

Is izakaya becoming Sydney’s favourite Japanese style? Kagura gives another reason to say yes. Great fresh, clean flavoured fish, shellfish and seafood is delivered beautifully plated. Marry this up with interesting cocktails, Japanese beer and whiskies and you may find yourself coming back to work through the menu.

Automata

Automata at the Clare Hotel serves up a 5 course set menu using the best of ingredients with the option of paired beverages or choose from an eclectic list of beers, sakes, wines and amaros. Clayton Wells (Momofuku Seiōbo), with a menu that will change regularly, is delivering quality dishes with unique pairings that bring together his experiences in a casual space.

Silvereye

The menu hints at northern European cuisine at Silvereye in the Clare Hotel as Chef Sam Miller (ex executive sous chef Noma) brings his experiences to the table. Long and short tasting menus deliver snacks, vegetable, fish and meat courses that combine herbal, vegetable, and floral elements. There are also tea infusions and pairings of vegetable and fruit juices to complement the drinks list.

Annata, Crows Nest

It is no surprise that cocktails will feature at Annata with Christian Blair (ex Eau De Vie and Rockpool Bar And Grill) on board at this soon to open restaurant on the north-side.  This contemporary modern Australian also aims to offer an interesting wine list with some more unusual wines on show.

Capriccio Osteria & Bar

What better way to enjoy Italian than al fresco, either on the street tables or the garden at Capriccio Osteria & Bar. Pasta like Spaghetti Alla Bottarga with cured mullet roe or Pollo Alla Diavola, chili marinated butterflied chicken are sure to tempt. Complementing the wine list are a couple of refrigerated wine barrels serving up house blends from Sardegna.

New Shanghai

Opening in the CBD for the first time in early October, New Shanghai will be serving their modern Shanghai-style cuisine that includes the soup dumplings, hot pots, noodles and pan fried dumplings.
