The Great Australian Cookbook is a compilation of recipes from one hundred of Australia’s finest cooks, chefs, bakers and local heroes What sets it apart is that these are recipes they cook at home for their families and this is reflected in the photographs shot on location in their homes.
A quick browse through the 400+ page tome reveals 165 recipes that reflect Australia’s unique multicultural food scene. We go into the homes of Australian cooking legend, Margaret Fulton for a classic sponge cake, we visit Sharon and Carol Salloum‘s (Almond Bar) backyard for Lahm Meshwi, and Rayleen Brown for Bush Fruit Christmas Cake, to name a few.
The original cover artwork by artist Reg Mombassa adds another element of Australiana to the book. Flicking through the pages with beautiful photographs is a xxx of the diversity of Australia’s culinary landscape and how it has become part of our every day lives. This is not a book for the coffee table, but one to be put to god use in the kitchen with food made to be shared with friends and family.
Edited by Helen Greenwood & Melissa Leong and photographed by Lottie Hedley, The Great Australian Cookbook is available from November 2017 in hardcover at $50 RRP. OzHarvest will receive royalties from the sale of book to support its work nourishing those in need.
