Italicus

Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, a new spirit by Giuseppe Gallo has been launched in the UK. Rosolio was the original Italian aperitivo and the Italicus pays homage to its historic origins using a recipe which dates back to the late 1800s.

Italicus ( 20% ABV) has bergamot from the Calabrian region at its heart, cedro from Sicily infused in an Italian neutral grain spirit using a time honoured process called Sfumatura. Roman chamomile from Lazio, lavender, gentian, yellow roses and melissa balm from Northern Italy are then macerated together for several days before being married with the bergamot and cedro essential oils to create the final liquid.

The tasting notes state that Italicus is has light citrus aromas with hints of rose and lavender. The palate balances bitter and floral spice and leads to a long finish. Italicus is recommended as an aperitif enjoyed 50/50 with Prosecco over ice and garnished with three green olives to balance the floral aromas with a touch of saltiness. Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is not yet available in Australia but we’ll be keeping an eye out on its arrival.
