NEWS: Earl’s Juke Joint, The Barber Shop, Fat Rupert’s

This week’s round-up of what’s new, what’s cool and recent reviews.

Earl’s Juke Joint

Fernet-Branca on tap? It may sound like a dream. That’s one of the features you will find at Earl’s Juke Joint in Newtown which opened this week. The bar is owned by ex Shady Pines’ Pasan Wijesena and offers has a New Orleans flavour with classic and bespoke cocktails. 407 King Street, Newtown.

The Barber Shop

Sydney is about to have its own barber shop and cocktail bar in one when The Barber Shop, a venture of Mike Enright (ex Merivale Group Bars Manager) with Will Oxenham (ex Rockpool Group) opens later in July. The small bar will have a specially designed ‘gin tap’ built into the bar and cocktails crafted around quality ingredients. 89 York Street, Sydney

Fat Rupert’s

Located along Bondi Road within the old Flying Squirrel site, Fat Rupert’s launched this month and is promising to be a fun bar serving boutique beers, wines and cocktails with Australian-style tapas food. 249 Bondi Road, Bondi, Ph: 02 9130 1033, www.fatruperts.com.au

Bentley Restaurant and Bar

The Bentley Restaurant and Bar will have its final service on August 10 before it moves from Surry Hills to Sydney. It will be reborn in its new CBD home at the historic Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney on O’Connell Street, in the space previously occupied by Bistro Fax Restaurant and will continue to be known as The Bentley. The restaurant will reopen in the new location at the end of 2013.
