An empty ticket holder from the Tokyo Metro sits next to the laptop. Alongside it, The andré label from the leather handbag I purchased in Paris keeps it company. The brochure I picked up on the London Eye reminds me of what to do on my next visit. The black spiral notebook that accompanied my travels has not been filed away. It remains as testament of unfinished business, experiences yet to be shared with the written world.
Perfumed soaps from a hotel suite fill the air with the sweet scent of travel, redolent of luxurious baths taken in distant lands while the mind wandered. Thousands of digital photographs on my hard drive wait to be edited, filed and labelled, yet all I do is cycle through each folder as each image takes me back on a journey.
Nothing replaces the joie de vivre of travel. Yet relics of past trips abroad are scattered around me, their mere presence serving as a reminder that a part of me exists in memories, and another part feels very much at home. Elsewhere.
So many memories, so many photos, so many blog posts and articles yet to be written. But before I have time to organise all of this, I can’t wait for the next trip. I know the feeling!
